A Musical Journey Through Generations

Music runs deep in my veins, rooted in the traditions of my Tennessee ancestors. Both sides of my family—my grandmother’s and grandfather’s—were hillbilly musicians, and I believe that’s where I inherited my passion for writing and performing.

My roots stretch from Dallas and Fort Worth to Oklahoma, where the swing grooves and honky-tonk rhythms left a lasting impression on me. From a young age, I was immersed in music that most kids my age wouldn’t encounter. By the time I was eight, I was tagging along with my dad and stepmother to the honky-tonks of Fort Worth, soaking in the raw energy of country bands on dark stages. Legends like Porter Wagoner shaped my early love for authentic country sounds.

As I grew older, my influences expanded. From 15 to 18, I was drawn to the electrifying world of rock ‘n’ roll and blues. Elvis, The Beatles, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and Howlin’ Wolf became my teachers, their music shaping my understanding of soul, rhythm, and storytelling. At the same time, the Oklahoma bluegrass scene played a pivotal role in my development. Surrounded by seasoned pickers and passionate musicians, I witnessed three-day jam sessions filled with pure, unfiltered music—no drugs, no alcohol, just relentless dedication and camaraderie.

The elders I played with shared timeless wisdom: Be yourself. If you cover a song, make it your own or do it justice. And if you want to write, stay dedicated and you’ll find your own voice. Those lessons became my foundation, guiding my path as a songwriter and performer.

In 1985, I relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where my journey continued. I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with incredible musicians, including Keith Nation (bass/vocals), Jimmy Mooney (sax/keys/vocals), and Ronnie Jr. Collier (drums/vocals). Their talent and passion elevate every performance and inspire me to keep creating.

I’m also deeply grateful to the countless friends and musicians who’ve supported me, stepping in during clutch moments and sharing their artistry. Their dedication and friendship have been invaluable.

The journey isn’t over—it’s still unfolding. Together, let’s leave a musical legacy that inspires the next generation to pursue their dreams with passion, heart, and soul.
